Interview with Georgina Kelaroudis

I'm currently working...
At SY Wealth Management. I do all the higher level administration jobs and I look after their compliance. Every day is very busy and there is a wide variety of tasks from preparing advice documents to following up clients and fund managers to making sure all compliance is in place.

Quickstep Marketing is a small business which is growing in clientele and revenue. We do everything from put marketing plans together, provide business consultations, create websites and set up and run social media applications. We also sponsor some events.

At Ballroom Dancing Experience I help out with groups and practice/social every Wednesday and there are also private lessons for clients who would like to take their dancing further.

The best or most rewarding part of my work is...
Helping people in the process of obtaining their financial or marketing goals, especially when their end goals are attained.

Watching people get excited when they start moving and learn to dance is also rewarding and fun.

My most memorable experiences at Deakin include...
The student social life - it's a lot of fun at Deakin. I enjoyed the events the Commerce Student Society ran. I was also on the committee of the Deakin University Liberal Club for a number of years. I learnt a lot of business, management, people and leadership skills by being involved in the committee, attended some great events and lectures, highlight being our annual dinner and made friends who I am still in touch with.

The best thing about Deakin is...
Deakin provides a great environment to learn in. All the staff I have dealt with over the years go out of their way to help students achieve results. As a student you do not feel like a number. All the assessments provide a variety of tasks which help you work on a variety of skills which you take with you into the workforce.

Without Deakin I would never have learnt all the business, management, leadership, communication and team work skills which I put into practice on an everyday basis. Deakin doesn't just teach you theory but life skills you can utilise forever no matter which industry you work in. It is easy to see why Deakin is ranked third in Australia for graduate employability.

My career highlights include...
Getting my first role in the financial planning industry at Capstone Financial Planning. Starting my own marketing business, Quickstep Marketing. Getting the position at SY Wealth Management which is helping me gain a solid understanding in financial planning and compliance.

A great thing about Deakin...
Is that it's a young and dynamic university which has achieved a lot in a very short period of time. I am proud to be a Deakin graduate and very grateful for the great experiences I have had at Deakin.
