Lawrence Lau has led an exciting career since graduating from Deakin, working across a variety of businesses and travelling the world.
Career path and highlights
Lawrence Lau graduated from the Deakin University MBA (CPA) program in 2004 and helped establish the Deakin Alumni Shanghai chapter in 2011 and subsequently served as the first President until 2014. He is the executive director of Yellow Sand Capital based in China and Singapore specialising in consulting services, coaching and investment in clean energy, education and real estate. Prior to that he was the head of finance of Owen Corning Building Materials in Asia Pacific, Director of KPMG Advisory China, Finance Director of L’Oreal China and held various senior positions in General Motors Asia Pacific.
Lawrence is a Fellow CPA (Australia) and an active advocate of Finance and Accounting profession development in China. He is one of the founders of the Shanghai Chapter and served as President from 2009 to 2010. As an outdoor enthusiast, Lawrence recently participated in the fifth Asia Pacific MBA School Desert Challenge (a three day 70km trek in the fourth largest desert in China) and the inaugural MBA School Multi Terrain Challenge in XiJiang on behalf of the Deakin University.
Apart from his professional and outdoor activities, Lawrence is active in serving the community and those in need. He was recently involved in a medical outreach trip into the remote regions of West China with a group international doctors from New Zealand, Australia, the United States, Singapore and Hong Kong that provided medical support to over 1400 patients in a week in June. He was recently appointed by the sixth Asia Pacific MBA School Desert Challenge committee to as committee member to operate the charity program in 2017.
As a fellow Australian, he is active in serving the Australian business community. He was appointed as the honorary advisor to the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai between 2010 and 2013.
