Loren’s time at Deakin provided her with invaluable opportunities that launched her career in marketing and events management. Now having delivered hundreds of events and programs for high-level stakeholders across the USA and Australia, Loren reflects on her journey since Deakin and shares important advice to current students.
What did you love most about Deakin?
Asides from my degree itself, Deakin provided me with unique opportunities that have played a formative role in my life. Whilst studying I completed an internship within the University’s events team which launched my career in unexpected and wondrous ways.
What has been your journey since finishing your course? Briefly outline your career path prior to your current role.
After I graduated, I continued to work in event management for Deakin before moving to the USA. I lived and worked in the San Francisco Bay Area as a Marketing and Events Specialist for the University of California, Berkeley. Whilst I was over there I ran an event for Deakin alumni in Northern California which eventually brought me back to Melbourne to work within the alumni relations team at Deakin!
What has been the biggest influence on your career?
My mentors – unofficial and official, some of them may not even know that I look up to them, but I’m grateful to all of the people in my life who have, and continue to, guide and support me throughout my professional and personal journey.
What quality has helped you the most in your career?
I always want to learn, grow and be better than I was yesterday.
What advice would you give to current students?
Relax. It’s going to be okay. Enjoy the journey and take things as they come. Things may not happen the way you expected or wanted them to but trust me, it’s all going to work out.
Where do you see yourself in the future?
I’m very passionate about health and wellbeing so I would love to do more work in that space.
How would someone describe you?
