Applying for candidature and/or scholarship

The application process at Deakin differs depending on which Faculty or Institute you wish to study in.

Applicants applying in the following areas must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) prior to submitting a formal application.
The Faculty or Institute will then advise if you should submit a formal application via the Applicant Portal.

  • Faculty of Arts and Education
  • Faculty of Business and Law
  • Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment

Applicants applying in the following area are required to nominate a potential supervisor and must have approval from their potential supervisor before making a formal application via the Applicant Portal.

  • Faculty of Health
  • Institute for Frontier Materials

Formal Application


Before completing the HDR research candidature and scholarships application form you must first register to start your application with a valid email address and password. By registering you will be able to login to view and edit your application form. If you cannot finish your application form in a single session your progress will be saved and you can return later to complete the form.


All online applications must be supported by one referee report. These can be downloaded from our How to Apply page at step 3 and must be forwarded onto your referee(s) for completion.

Doctor of Psychology

Applications for Doctor of Psychology (Clinical) can be lodged online via the Deakin applicant portal.
