Deakin’s Department of Economics ranks in the top three in Victoria, the top 10 in Australia and among the top five per cent in the world (RePec). 

With 31 staff members, our research strengths lie in political economy, international trade and economic theory – with our findings regularly published across leading scholarly journals.

Grant success

The department has been successful in obtaining nationally and internationally competitive grants such as ARC Discovery grants, the Bush Fire and Natural Hazard Cooperative Research Centre and the US Department of Agriculture. Since 2011, more than 90% of our faculty members have published in an A-ranked journal and a further 60% have published in A* journals according to the ABCD journal rankings.
