Deakin Trading Room
This room functions like an interbank FX trading floor, giving you practical learning and insights into the working of the foreign exchange market.
Exposure to real-world economic scenarios
Deakin is one of only a few Australian universities offering trading curriculum in a high-tech teaching space to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as external companies interested in training their staff in a real-life environment.
Experience the fast-paced nature of the trading world with our advanced equipment including tickers, ASX and Bloomberg real feeds on the trading wall.
How it works
The custom-made facility is made up of 15 banks, named after real institutions. Each bank can have a team of three students, taking on the essential roles of dealer, position keeper and risk manager.
Develop your practical skills
Take all the theoretical knowledge you've gained about risks, pressures and strategy formulation and improve your practical skills during a Deakin Trading Room simulation.
Running time of your session and debrief
Sessions run for approximately 1.5 hours and include a post-session debrief where you and your team can assess trading results, outcomes and your performance.
What will you learn?
Although the Deakin Trading Room is a simulated environment, the decisions made by you and your team are based on real-life economic scenarios.
Through trading reports, you'll develop your:
- teamwork capabilities
- critical thinking and analysis
- written communication skills.
You'll get to understand dealing practices and conventions in the foreign exchange market and within the simulated bank's treasury dealing room, you'll learn to:
- coordinate front and back office functions
- account for and settle transactions
- develop and examine dealing strategies
- analyse and manage the roles taken by you and your teammates.
