Students will on average spend 150-hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.
In Person Attendance Requirements Students who are completing professional experience placements are not required to attend classes or scheduled synchronous sessions during the placement.
Time engaging in learning activities is expected to total a combined equivalent of 8-10 hours per week.
This includes engagement with materials, responses to tasks, independent study and 1 x 3-hour scheduled seminar per non-placement teaching week (approx. 6-9 weeks).

This unit provides students with a grounding in the pedagogical principles and practice of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL). Students will learn how to plan for, teach and assess in a CLIL program, considering the specific requirements of an approach integrating language and discipline areas. This unit aims to deepen students’ understanding of the relationship between language, concepts, cognition and communication, and to develop further teachers’ capacity to scaffold and support their students’ learning through a second language.
Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of CLIL pedagogy and the theoretical considerations underpinning CLIL; demonstrate sound understanding of the relationship between language, content, communication and cognition, and its implication for teaching through a second language

Demonstrate strategies for working in linguistically heterogeneous classrooms with regards to effective scaffolding of everyday and discipline-specific language, to support the students' language learning and their comprehension of discipline knowledge and content, and to promote language and intercultural awareness
Identify the appropriate CLIL model for their teaching contexts, demonstrate sound knowledge of the appropriate and relevant resources for their program; engage in professional and community networks, and professional discussions to continuously broaden knowledge and improve practice
