Content

This unit supports students to explore the broad field of opportunities available to apply criminological knowledge in the field, nationally and internationally. It introduces students to a range of pathways, careers and organisations relevant to their developing knowledge and skills in the criminal justice arena. The unit provides students with insight into the range of volunteering opportunities open to undergraduate students that can assist in securing strong employment opportunities following graduation. It also explores some key challenges encountered by criminologists ‘in action’, that is, graduates who go on to work in government or other policy positions, policing and corrections where putting theory into practice is often attended by a number of specific obstacles and challenges which the unit helps students both anticipate and manage. This unit prepares students to make a real impact on social justice and to embrace the exciting and dynamic opportunities open to Deakin criminology graduates.
