Students will on average spend 150-hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.
Students are required to attend 4-days of intensive classes during the trimester. These will include a mix of classes, seminars, group work, and field trip activity.

All students: Weekly Study Guide topics are provided, in addition to at least 1 scheduled online seminar
The unit will introduce international heritage practices in cultural heritage through a focus on the implementation of the World Heritage Convention and other UNESCO Conventions and programs. The Unit will familiarise students with the strengths and weaknesses in the philosophy, system and processes of World Heritage; and will identify key contemporary issues including the divergence in heritage approaches between different world regions, the intense tourism pressures on World Heritage sites and the need for more effective monitoring mechanisms. The unit will develop student skills in identifying and interpreting the outcomes and futures for international heritage systems.
Understand the emergence and operation of global instruments for cultural heritage, including the World Heritage system, and place these within their international and regional contexts

Apply the concepts that underpin the World Heritage system and other international conventions for culture, and demonstrate an understanding of the regional and cultural differences in approach and their influences on international ideas and practices
