Cemetery managers face many challenges today in a multi-cultural, mutli-religious society. Balancing the needs of a complex range of religious and cultural beliefs around death, grief and interment, and dealing sensitively with the needs of grieving relatives, against all the other regulatory and contextual factors is enormously demanding.
This unit surveys the beliefs of major world religions and emerging cultural practices impacting on cemetery services in contemporary society, as well as a secular worldview, with a focus on death, interment and grieving. It then explores some principles for providing cemetery services in a manner that is sensitive to the needs of grieving clients from diverse backgrounds.
Critically examine and evaluate the needs and expectations of diverse mourners to generate cemetery services that balance regulatory and stakeholder requirements
