Students will on average spend 150-hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

1 x 1-hour class per week, 1 x 2-hour seminar per week

Online independent and collaborative learning activities including:
1 x 1-hour class (recordings provided) and 1 x 2-hour seminar activities per week equivalent.

Cloud students are expected to participate in weekly discussions and interactions with the tutor.

Content

This unit examines the language, techniques and practices of screen production (live action and animation). It enables understanding of the ways in which screen stories are told through narrative and audiovisual forms and styles, drawing from historical traditions through to contemporary practices. Topics addressed in the unit include: screen histories (key movements, genres and technologies), screen story structures and plots, character development and arcs, editing, cinematography, mise-en-scène, and sound.
