Students will on average spend 150-hours over the trimester undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.
Learning experiences are available via CloudDeakin. A minimum of 2 x 1-hour blackboard collaborate sessions will be conducted throughout the trimester
The unit includes 80-hours of Work integrated learning
In this unit students will investigate major policy drivers in Adult, Vocational Education and Training and how these translate into their own teaching practice. Students will be introduced to current research on the vocational education and training system including publicly funded TAFE in Australia, and develop knowledge about the various sites of learning where vocational education and training occurs. Students will develop advanced knowledge and skills of key learning theories, including formal, informal and work based approaches, contemporary practices in teaching pedagogy and digital learning through cloud-based resources and case studies. They will critically apply this knowledge to reflect on their own teaching, future professional development and lifelong learning.
Research the current academic and practice-based literature to investigate key global discourses in adult, vocational education and training
GLO1: Discipline-specific knowledge and capabilities
GLO4: Critical thinking
Apply knowledge of key global discourses that impact on policy and drivers of change in adult, vocational education and training to real world problems
GLO5: Problem solving
Critique and apply key learning theories that inform teaching pedagogy and practice in adult, vocational education and training (including TAFE), and use these to articulate a coherent philosophy that supports their own approach to teaching and learning
GLO6: Self-management
Critically reflect on their own teacher practice and scholarship with regard to identifying opportunities for professional development and lifelong learning. This could be included in assessment requirements.
These Unit Learning Outcomes are applicable for all teaching periods throughout the year.
