Students will on average spend 150 hours over the trimester undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.
Online independent and collaborative learning activities and 1 x 2 hour scheduled face-to-face seminar per week.
Online independent and collaborative learning activities including 11 scheduled online 2 hour seminars for off-campus students. All online sessions are recorded.
This unit is core to the Bachelor of Public Health and Health Promotion, the combined courses with Commerce and Nursing, and for the Public Health major pathway in the Bachelor of Health Sciences. The unit is also offered as an elective to students across the University. Through this unit, students will be introduced to applying theories, models and frameworks used in both public health and health promotion; examine multiple dimensions of disease prevention and control including biological, behavioural, socioeconomic, and environmental factors; as well as relevant ethical, social, legal and advocacy issues.

Weekly readings will be provided. It is not necessary to purchase copies of the Recommended Learning Resources. Copies can be found in the library on reserve and as a Deakin eBook using the Talis system, which is linked in the CloudDeakin site.
