In addition to meeting the general prerequisite and corequisite requirements above, students are strongly encouraged to have completed, or simultaneously undertake the relevant substantive and procedural units for the given practice areas below:

The Deakin Law Clinic provides pro bono legal advice and/or assistance to eligible clients. Deakin Law Clinic allows students to assist clients from initial client interviews to drafting letters of advice and drafting key legal documents such as court documents and correspondence to third parties. Students undertake legal analysis and problem solving for real clients, gaining firsthand experience under the supervision of the unit supervisor and experienced legal practitioners. Students get the opportunity to deepen and critically reflect upon their substantive legal knowledge while developing critical professional and practical skill through direct client advice, advocacy and policy work. Students apply to the Deakin Law Clinic unit and may be placed in a variety of a clinical practice areas including employment law, civil law, family law, criminal law and policy advocacy law. Students will be able to register for the unit by campus.
