About the scholarship
Professor Lina Ricciardelli BA (Hons) PhD was held in high esteem by all who knew her. She was an internationally renowned researcher, dedicated teacher, most generous in service, and a deeply-valued and much-loved colleague and friend.
Professor Ricciardelli excelled in all aspects of her academic career in psychology. She was a recipient of Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery and Linkage grants, as well as funding from Rotary Health and the Telstra Foundation. She also authored 185 publications in peer-reviewed journals, was co-editor of a handbook for health psychologists, invited keynote speaker and conference workshop facilitator on body image and eating disorders, and authored a book on adolescent body image. In 2010, Professor Ricciardelli led the lobbying for, and achieved recognition of health psychology as an area of practice endorsement under the registration standards of the Psychology Board of Australia. In 2012, she was awarded the Australian Psychological Society, College of Health Psychologist’s Award of Distinction for her leadership and achievements in health psychology. Professor Ricciardelli was Course Chair of the Graduate Diploma of Psychological Studies, Course Director of the Doctor of Psychology (Health), Fellow of the APS, a National Chair of the APS College of Health Psychologists, Chair of a Women in Research group, and served on the editorial board of a number of scholarly journals. Professor Ricciardelli supervised 32 doctoral students to completion as principal supervisor and 28 as associate supervisor. She was also Coordinator of the Higher Degree by Research Program for Psychology in the Faculty of Health from 2009 and she remained active in this role and in HDR supervision until her death in February 2018.

This scholarship is available over 3 years.
- Stipend of $30,000 per annum tax exempt
- Relocation allowance of $500-1500 (for single to family) for students moving from interstate or overseas
- International students only: Tuition fee and overseas health coverage for the duration of 4 years
To be eligible you must:
- be either a domestic or international candidate
- meet Deakin's PhD entry requirements
- be enrolling full time in the School of Psychology and hold an honours degree (first class) or an equivalent standard master's degree with a substantial research component.
