A major gift to Deakin is an investment in knowledge, innovation and the future. Thanks to the generosity of benefactors and organisations, Deakin has the ability to provide outstanding educational facilities and resources. Your gift can also go towards pioneering research that will make a difference to the local community and people around the world.
Example of a major gift
Penfold Motors has generously donated $120,000 to support three $10,000 scholarships per year for four years, for undergraduate students who are experiencing financial hardship or personal disadvantage. Penfold Motors’ kindness will play a vital part in helping 12 students achieve their full potential and make their goals a reality.
Gifts in kind
You can donate artwork, equipment, book collections, other valuable personal property or your professional expertise to the university. Known as ‘gifts in kind,’ these non-monetary donations are another important avenue of Deakin support and can be just as valuable as cash.
Types of gifts
Deakin appreciates and encourages gifts in kind, such as:
- computer hardware and software
- laboratory supplies
- library collections
- industrial equipment
- musical instruments
- works of art
- other materials and services that the university would otherwise need to purchase.
By donating gifts in kind, you help Deakin enhance facilities and strengthen programs to provide the best possible educational experience for our students.
You also allow Deakin to channel funds that would have been spent on the donated items or services into other priority areas. There may also be tax benefits associated with making in-kind donations.
Who can donate?
While major and in-kind donations are often received from large businesses and organisations, individual donors also contribute significant in-kind gifts.
Deakin University likes to recognise your support, no matter how big or small, by thanking you for your gift and providing you with updates on how your donations are being used.
Every cent you give goes directly to help students and projects across the University. We extend our sincere appreciation to all of our donors and volunteers for participating in Deakin's past successes and future contributions.
Acknowledgement of Donations
As a donor, you will receive regular updates about the University and invitations to University events. The impact of your gift will be documented and reported to you on an annual basis. You may receive progress reports or testimonials from students whose lives are transformed by scholarships; photos which plot the progress of building works and the advancement of Deakin, or details about the outcomes of research projects.
It is important to us that you see the journey of your gift and the impact you directly have on students' lives and the communities we serve.
Deakin regularly hold events to thank and honour donors for their highly valued contributions and to congratulate recipients.
A dedicated team works closely with donors to match areas of interest with Deakin funding priorities to ensure your gift has a lasting impact.
