Casey's story

Deakin’s ‘Change 100 Lives’ campaign was an initiative that aimed to address the challenge of student equity, access and participation in university study. Casey, who studied optometry at our Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus, was just one of our worthy recipients.

Change 100 Lives Rural and Regional Relocation Scholarship

Casey completed secondary school in Horsham, where she was a school captain. She had to move from her home to study at Deakin's Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus. Living away from home was hard, but leaving behind family was even harder. Working full time to pay the bills added more stress, and made it a challenge to continue her studies and make her dream a reality.

All of this changed when Casey received a scholarship funded by generous donors. Casey's message clearly demonstrates the difference this support made to her life:

Giving to Deakin

When you give to Deakin, you're investing in the future of one of Australia's most dynamic, innovative and engaged academic communities.

You have changed my life. I can now breathe easier at night and sleep well, knowing that I am putting my heart and soul into studying rather than worrying about working all the time. Without this scholarship I would not be able to pursue my dream of becoming an optometrist. Thank you so much, you have brought me immense happiness.
