Dynamic Nuclear Polarisation
Through a partnership with University of Melbourne we have access to a Bruker 400 MHz solid-state MAS DNP system at the Bio21 Institute. This instrument is the first of its kind in the southern hemisphere.
DNP allows the weak NMR signal to be boosted by several orders of magnitude, allowing experiments that would otherwise take weeks to run to be carried out in minutes. This permits more advanced experiments and opens up a wider range of elements in the periodic table to study by NMR.
