Undergraduate (your first degree)

An undergraduate degree is generally completed between two to four years, depending on the pattern of study and any recognition of prior learning you may have. Associate degrees, bachelor and bachelor with honours are all undergraduate degrees.

Postgraduate

A postgraduate qualification can be undertaken by students who have already completed an undergraduate degree or possess significant, demonstrable work experience. Postgraduate courses include graduate certificates, graduate diplomas, masters and PhDs, as well as specialist programs for industry professionals.

Successfully complete the Diploma of Health Sciences and transition directly into the Bachelor of Psychological Science at Deakin.

Professional recognition

All of our undergraduate psychology courses are accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council and can lead to further study in pursuit of registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia. Your next step is to complete a fourth year of study in psychology, such as Deakin’s Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) or the equivalent Graduate Diploma of Psychology (Advanced).

You will then be eligible for provisional registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia, and eligible to apply for Deakin's postgraduate psychology degrees. After completing a masters degree in psychology, you are then eligible to apply for general registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia, and to the Australian Psychological Society for full membership.
