Biography

Dr Weiwei Lei is an Associate Professor and ARC Future Fellow at the Institute for Frontier Materials, Deakin University. He received his PhD degree in Jilin University in 2010. He then joined Max-Planck-Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Germany, working with Prof. Dr. Markus Antonietti. He was awarded an Alfred Deakin Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, Deakin University in 2011. He was then granted an Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Researcher Award in 2014. He has contributed 2 book chapters, 9 patents, >180 journal publications including Nature Communications, Joule, Advanced Materials, Advanced Energy Materials, etc, which received >10,000 citations with an H-index of 53. The research outcomes have attracted more than 500 media coverages internationally (e.g. BBC, ABC, Global Water Forum, SBS, The Conversation) and industry requests (i.e. UK Highways, AquaPure, GOV. UK, Graphene technologies, MonarchGreen, Inc).

  1. Designing novel two- and three-dimensional and porous nanomaterials, especially boron nitride (BN) nanosheets and graphene, metal nitrides, MXene.
  2. Developing new nanomaterials for water purification, freshwater generation, environment protection and green energy geneartion and storage devices.
  3. Plasma surface functionalization of materials
