Event details
The annual Oration honours the significant contribution of Dr David Parkin OAM in leadership, sport and education. It promotes the advancement of public knowledge by exploring the challenges and opportunities for sport to act as a driver of social change.
This year’s Oration ‘Reflections of a Leader’ will be delivered by AFL Chief Executive Officer, Gillon McLachlan, in conversation with renowned sports broadcaster and writer, Gerard Whateley. This is a free public event held in-person at The Edge, Federation Square.
About the David Parkin Oration
Dr David Parkin has over 30 years of experience in teaching and coaching education and has been a lecturer at Deakin University since 1992. In 2013, David was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University in recognition of his outstanding contributions to education and sporting communities, and an annual Oration was established in his name, 'The David Parkin Oration for Sport and Social Change'.
