2019 Undergraduate Prizes and Awards

Renee Erdos Memorial Prize

This prize of $750 is awarded to the best honours student in the Faculty of Arts and Education, more than half of whose honours program has been undertaken in the Cloud (online) mode. The nomination will be based on the student's work in the honours year only.

Robert McDonald Prize

This prize of $500 is awarded to an outstanding graduating student of Journalism or International Relations. Students are nominated by the academic staff in each discipline and cannot self-nominate for this prize.

The Association of Graduates in Early Childhood Studies Prize

A prize of a full lifetime membership of the Association of Graduates in Early Childhood Studies (AGECS) is awarded to a student for general academic excellence and service to the University during the Bachelor of Education (Early Years) course.

Australian Literacy Educators' Association (ALEA)

One prize of one year's membership to the ALEA and a certificate is awarded for graduating with a primary education degree and having achieved the highest aggregate marks in a final, core English Language and Literacy subject.

Ballarat Diocesan Schools Advisory Council Award

Presented to a student graduating from the Warrnambool campus who has achieved excellent results during their studies at Deakin and is now employed full-time in a local Warrnambool Catholic school. The award consists of a certificate and a prize of $250.

Bank First Award

Prizes to the value of $300 will be awarded to the highest achieving undergraduate students who have achieved a combination of both high academic results together with outstanding results in teaching practice. This is based on their results for the duration of their undergraduate course.

Cengage Science Award

Awarded to the student with the highest achievement across the two primary science units in the Bachelor of Education (Primary) (from any campus). The prize consists of a $200 gift voucher to purchase books of their choice through Cengage.

Design and Technology Teachers' Association Victoria (DATTA)

Four prizes of a year's membership of DATTA and a selection of DATTA publications are awarded to the most outstanding students in technology education in an undergraduate education course, having completed the unit EST400 Primary Technology Education: Creativity and Design (Melbourne Burwood Campus, Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus, Warrnambool Campus and the Institute of Koorie Education) with distinction and within the unit focused on either the integration of all three strands of technology or on either systems or materials strands.

Head of School Award

Presented to a graduating student (from each campus/Deakin Learning Centre) who has completed their undergraduate degree in 2018 and has demonstrated:

• excellence in engagement and teamwork;
• achievement of academic potential;
• exceptional and consistent effort in professional placements; and
• a contribution to the broader University community.

The Award consists of a Certificate and a prize of $200.

Gillian Barnsley/Victorian Association for the Teaching of English (VATE) Award

One prize is awarded for graduating with a secondary education degree and having achieved the highest all-round performance in English education subjects and in English teaching practicum. The Award consists of a certificate and a year’s free membership of VATE.

Mathematical Association of Victoria Prizes (MAV)

Three prizes of one year's membership of MAV, a voucher to the value of $100 to redeem at the MAV online shop and a framed certificate, are awarded to the most outstanding students in mathematics and mathematics education.

Two of the prizes are awarded for graduating with a primary education or early years degree and having achieved the highest marks in mathematics education subjects (Melbourne Burwood Campus, and either Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus or Warrnambool Campus).

The remaining prize is awarded to a student with the highest aggregate marks in mathematics and mathematics education subjects who has graduated with an education degree qualifying to teach secondary mathematics (from any campus).

Primary English Teaching Association Australia (PETAA) Award for Excellence

PETAA offers four awards of 12 months' membership of the association to graduating primary education students who have excelled in literacy and English language studies during the year. The awards recognise both the importance of literacy studies and the career and personal benefits of belonging to a professional association. The resources recipients will access through their membership will be of great support as they begin their teaching career.

A student from each campus (Melbourne Burwood, Geelong Waurn Ponds, Warrnambool and the Cloud campus) studying the Bachelor of Education (Primary) will receive the Award, together with one student studying the Master of Teaching (Primary strand).

The Reverend Dr Norman Curry Student Prize for Outstanding Teaching Practice

This prize has been established to recognise Reverend Dr Norman Curry OAM who was a well-known and highly regarded educationalist who made a significant contribution to education in Australia.

One prize of $2,000 will be awarded annually to a graduate of the Bachelor of Education (Primary) or the Master of Teaching (Primary) who has demonstrated excellence in teaching practice. Where there are high-achieving graduates from each course, the prize will be divided equally and each recipient will receive $1,000.

Anthropology First-year Student Prize

Awarded to the student with the highest first-year results in the two Anthropology Level One units in any one calendar year. At the end of Trimester 2, Anthropology academic staff combine results from the units ASS101 and ASS102 for all students receiving a High Distinction in each unit. The recipient of this prize will receive a book voucher and a certificate.

Dr Malcolm Crick Memorial Prize

Named after the first anthropology academic at Deakin, Dr Malcolm Crick, this prize is awarded to the highest-scoring third-year student completing an Anthropology major. Performance will be based on the combined results of all Anthropology units. The recipient of this prize will receive a book voucher and a certificate.

The John Laffin Memorial History Prize

The John Laffin Memorial History Prize for 'Australia and the Two World Wars' recognises the work of distinguished Australian military historian, teacher and journalist, John Laffin, who established the Families and Friends of the First AIF (FFFAIF) Association.

The prize is annually awarded to an academically outstanding student studying the unit AIH238 Australia and the Two World Wars. The prize consists of a $500 monetary component and a three-year e-concessional FFFAIF membership.

The Arabic Student Prize for Academic Achievement and Promotion of Arabic Language and Culture

The prize for Arabic is awarded to a second or third year student who has shown commitment to his or her study of the language, as well as genuine interest in the culture of the Arabic-speaking world demonstrated through participation in the activities of the language program at Deakin. The award specifically recognises academic achievement and also enthusiasm, motivation, and commitment to the language. The recipient of this prize will receive a book voucher and a certificate.

The Chinese Student Prize for Academic Achievement and Promotion of the Chinese Language

The prize for Chinese is awarded to a first year student who has shown commitment to her or his study of the language as well as genuine interest in Chinese culture demonstrated through participation in the activities of the languages program at Deakin. The award specifically recognises academic achievement and also enthusiasm, motivation, and commitment to the language. The recipient of this prize will receive a book voucher and a certificate.

The Criminology Level One Student Prize

This prize is awarded to the first year student with the highest combined mark in the two Criminology Level One units in any one calendar year, with no mark below 80%.

At the end of Trimester 2, Criminology academic staff combine results from the units ACR101 and ACR102 for all students receiving a High Distinction in each unit. The recipient of this prize will receive a book voucher and a certificate.

The Criminology Level Three Student Prize

Awarded to the third year Criminology student with the highest combined marks in Criminology Level Three units in any one calendar year, with no mark below 80%. At the end of Trimester 2, Criminology academic staff will combine results from the units ACR301 and ACR302 (and, where relevant, ACR303) for all students receiving High Distinctions in each unit. The recipient of this prize will receive a book voucher and a certificate.

The Roy Hay History Prize

Awarded to the best first year student. The prize is limited to history students in their first year of study at Deakin University. It is based on the combined results in the two first year units of the history major. The recipient of this prize will receive a book voucher and a certificate.

The Michele Langfield History Prize

Awarded for the best result by a third level student undertaking the capstone unit AIH399 Making History. The prize is limited to students completing a History major, and will be judged by a panel of History academic staff. The recipient of this prize will receive a book voucher and a certificate.

The Indonesian Student Prize for Academic Achievement and Promotion of the Language and Culture of Indonesia

The Indonesian prize is awarded to a second or third year student who has shown commitment to his or her study of Indonesian as well as genuine interest in the language, as demonstrated through participation in the cultural and community activities of the Indonesian program at Deakin.

The award specifically recognises academic achievement but also enthusiasm and willingness to promote the language and culture of Indonesian. The recipient of this prize will receive a book voucher and a certificate.

The First Year International Relations Student Prize

Awarded to the highest performing first year International Relations student.

Results from the two Level One units will be assessed, and the highest performing student will be recommended for the prize. The judgement will be made by the Discipline Convenor in consultation with International Relations academic staff. The recipient of this prize will receive a book voucher and a certificate.

The First Year Prize in Middle East Studies

Awarded to the student with the highest combined mark in the two introductory Middle East Studies units (AIE153 and AIE154) within a calendar year. The recipient of this prize will receive a book voucher and a certificate.

The Geography Level One Student Prize

Awarded to the highest performing first year Human Geography student. Results from the Level One units will be assessed, and the highest performing student will be recommended for the prize. The judgement will be made by the Discipline Convenor in consultation with other Geography academic staff. The recipient of this prize will receive a book voucher and a certificate.

The Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Middle East Studies

Awarded to a student completing a major in Middle East Studies who has demonstrated a high standard of excellence throughout their studies and, by their participation and enthusiasm, has contributed significantly to the learning experience of their peers. The recipient of this prize will receive a book voucher and a certificate.

The Max Charlesworth Philosophy Prize

Named after founding Deakin Philosophy professor, Professor Max Charlesworth, this prize will be awarded to the best third year student completing a Philosophy major. Performance will be based on the combined results of all Philosophy units. The recipient of this prize will receive a book voucher and a certificate.

The Politics Student Prize

Awarded to a third year student, undertaking a Politics and Policy Studies major, who receives the highest combined result for the two Politics and Policy Studies capstone units (AIP300 and AIP301) in that calendar year. The recipient of this prize will receive a book voucher and a certificate.

The Sociology Student Prize

Awarded to the student, majoring in Sociology, who achieves the highest weighted-average-mean across ASC308 and at least one other third-year Sociology unit. The recipient of this prize will receive a book voucher and a certificate.

The Spanish Level One Student Prize

The Spanish Level One student prize will be awarded to a student who has demonstrated commitment to, and who has excelled in, his or her studies of Spanish, on completion of their first year. The recipient will have demonstrated a genuine interest in the language through participation in the cultural and community activities of the Spanish program at Deakin. The award recognises academic achievement but also enthusiasm, motivation, and commitment to the language and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.

At the end of Trimester 2, Spanish academic staff will determine the prize recipient. Judgement will be made by the Spanish Program Coordinator in consultation with Spanish academic staff. The recipient of this prize will receive a book voucher and a certificate.

The Spanish Level Two/Three Student Prize

The Spanish Level Two/Three student prize will be awarded to a student who has excelled in his or her studies of Spanish, on completion of either second or third year (one award only). The recipient will have demonstrated sustained improvement in Spanish language-acquisition, and a genuine interest in the cultures and societies of Spain and Latin America. The award recognises academic achievement but also enthusiasm, motivation, and commitment to the language and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.

At the end of Trimester 2, Spanish academic staff will determine the prize recipient. Judgement will be made by the Spanish Program Coordinator in consultation with Spanish academic staff. The recipient of this prize will receive a book voucher and a certificate.

The Stan Van Hooft Philosophy Prize

Awarded to the best first year Philosophy essay. The prize winning essay will be selected by a panel of the Philosophy academic staff, based on the best essays each has received in Trimesters 1 and 2 (and Trimester 3 from the previous year, which carries over into February of the prize year). The recipient of this prize will receive a book voucher and a certificate.

Judith Rodriguez Prize

This is an annual prize awarded for an outstanding piece of work in fiction/poetry/creative non-fiction submitted in a third-year coded unit.

Work is nominated for the long list by relevant third-year staff, and then judged by two members of the Professional and Creative Writing discipline area.

The winner receives:

• $450 of mentoring from a professional writer (organised through Writers Victoria);
• free membership of Writers Victoria; and
• publication in the journal Verandah.

Croydon Film Society Prize

This is a prize that has been established to support excellence in film and television studies within the School of Communication and Creative Arts. This prize is supported and funded by the Croydon Film Society.

The prize is awarded to A351 Bachelor of Creative Arts (Film and Television) students who have achieved the aggregate best weighted average marks in the compulsory units dedicated to film and television study at the end of their first year.

Bowater Trust Medal - Deakin Business School Graduate of the Year

Awarded annually to a Deakin Business School graduate who is considered to be the best all-round undergraduate student on the basis of academic merit, extra curricular activities and ambassadorial qualities.

Dean's Merit List

Awarded in recognition of outstanding academic achievement of the top 3% of graduates from Deakin Business School undergraduate courses.

Australian Unity (Faculty-wide) Award

A prize of $500 for the student in the Faculty who submits the best fourth year research project relevant to the topic of 'human wellbeing'.

Faculty-wide awards will be decided by the Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning), in conjunction with the awarding body, following recommendations from individual schools.

• Awarded to the most outstanding undergraduate student in first year, who has completed 8 credit points by Trimester 3 2018.
• Awarded to the most outstanding undergraduate student in second year, who has completed 16 credit points by Trimester 3 in 2018.

CHR HANSEN Functional Foods and Biotechnology Academic Distinction Award

Awarded to two most outstanding students who have completed Food Manufacturing and Process Innovation and Trends in Product Development units in 2018. The winners of this award will have the highest combined individual mark in these units and have successfully worked within a team to develop an innovative food product designed to meet the market needs for functional healthy foods in 2018.

Cricket Victoria Hookes Scholes Coaching Award

Awarded to the most outstanding graduate with the highest academic achievement in the Sport Coaching major in 2018 in an award course.

Exercise and Sport Science Student Engagement Award

The Physiological Society (UK) Undergraduate Award for Physiology

Each year, The Physiological Society (UK) awards undergraduate awards that recognise the excellence of final year undergraduate students studying a degree in physiology or related subject. Nominations can be made by Society Representatives either for excellence specifically in a final year project, or for overall excellence in a degree.

AFL David Parkin Award for Coach Development

Awarded to the student with the best academic performance who has completed both the units Principles of Sport Coaching and Introduction to Sport Coaching Practice in the Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science in 2018.

Physical Activity Australia Academic Distinction Award

Awarded to the student who has completed both units Principles of Exercise Prescription and Exercise Programming with the highest results enrolled in the Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science or Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science/Bachelor of Business (Sport Management) in 2018.

Heart Foundation Award for Excellence in Physical Activity and Population Health

Awarded to the most outstanding student enrolled in the unit Physical Activity and Population Health enrolled in an award course in 2018.

George Dyer Prize

A prize of $500 for the most outstanding student having completed the People Society and Disability major in the Bachelor of Health Science or Bachelor of Health Science/Bachelor of Arts degree.

JC Paul Duerdoth Memorial Award

A prize of $300 to acknowledge the efforts and diligence of an undergraduate student in Disability Studies and Inclusion.

MacKillop Family Services Award for Excellence in Social Work Theory and Practice

A prize of $300 awarded to the most outstanding Bachelor of Social Work student who has completed the first and second year social work theory and practice requirements.

MacKillop Family Services Award for Excellence in Social Policy

A prize of $200 awarded to the most outstanding Bachelor of Social Work student in the unit HSW316 Critical Social Policy.

Parks Victoria Award

A prize of $500 together with one night accommodation awarded to a student graduating in the Bachelor of Health Sciences with a major in either Family, Society and Health or Health Promotion, who has achieved outstanding results in the third year unit HSH306 People, Health and Place.

Research and Graduate Studies Prize

A prize of $500 for the best honours project.

Occupational Therapy Australia Victoria New Graduand Award for Clinical Fieldwork Excellence

A prize of a $250 voucher for continuing professional development activity and a certificate to be awarded to a final year undergraduate student in the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy who has demonstrated excellence in a fourth year clinical education placement.

Yungaburra Foundation Awards

A prize of $500 for a student making a significant contribution to an agency serving people who have disabilities, or to a person or group of persons who have disabilities, while on practicum placement as part of Disability Studies.

School of Medicine Honours Awards

Awarded annually to students commencing in the Bachelor of Health and Medical Science (Honours).  The criteria on which these awards will be assessed are the applicant's academic performance in their undergraduate degree(s) and their alignment to the research strengths of the School - four awards, one of $2,000 and three of $1,000.

Western District Health Service Nursing Award (Warrnambool Campus)

Awarded to a graduating Bachelor of Nursing student for the most outstanding clinical performance in year three of the course ($250 and certificate).

Head of School Prize

• A prize of $250 and a certificate awarded to the most outstanding first year undergraduate student enrolled in either the course H344 or the course H345 for the highest average mark over the first year of the course.
• A prize of $250 and a certificate awarded to the most outstanding third year undergraduate student enrolled in either the course H344 or the course H345 for the highest average mark over the third year of the course.
• A prize of $250 and a certificate awarded to the top student completing an undergraduate degree in either the course H344 or the course H345 for the highest average mark over the entire course.
• A prize of $250 and a certificate awarded to the best Honours Thesis in the H345, H451 or H452 course.

The Australian Psychological Society Prize

A prize of one year's subscription to the APS, a certificate and an invitation to present a poster at the APS Annual Conference for the most outstanding fourth year student.

Australian Unity

A prize of $500 will be awarded to the best final year graduate from the H344 course for the highest average grade over the entire course.

Compumedics Cognitive Neuroscience Prize

A prize of $250 and a certificate awarded to the third year student who obtains the highest average mark, in a single year, across the units HPS310 - Brain, Biology and Behaviour in Trimester 1 and HPS395- Cognitive Neuroscience in Trimester 2.

Lucy Zinkiewicz Award

A prize of $250 and a certificate awarded to the most outstanding second year undergraduate student enrolled in either the course H344 or the course H345 for the highest average mark over the second year of the course.

David Stokes Award

Awarded annually to the undergraduate student, who at the completion of their studies, achieves the highest weighted average mark of all completing students in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment. The David Stokes Award is a cash payment of $1,000 and an engraved glass plaque.

The Bennett Summer Placement

For a student enrolled in the Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours), Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Honours), Bachelor of Environmental Engineering (Honours), Bachelor of Environmental Engineering (Honours), Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honours), Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering (Honours) or associated combined course who has completed the 2nd or 3rd year of their degree and who is an Australian citizen. The recipient will be awarded a three month Summer Placement undertaking projects in the field of study of fibres or textiles within the Institute for Frontier Materials at the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus valued at $3,000. A call for applications to this award is made in October with the successful applicant commencing their placement in December.

Australian Institute of Building (AIB) Victorian Chapter

Awarded annually to the best student completing the Bachelor of Construction Management (Honours) degree.

Architects Registration Board of Victoria (ARBV) Professional Practice

Awarded annually to an outstanding student in the area of Professional Practice, Architecture program.

Arthur Collins Award

Named in honour of Arthur Collins (past staff member of the School of Architecture and Built Environment) an award of $500 is made annually for the best student project submitted by a fourth year Architecture student.

Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS) Donald Cant Prize

Named in honour of Donald Cant an award of $500 is made annually by the Victorian Chapter of AIQS to the highest achieving student completing the quantity surveying subjects in the Bachelor of Construction Management (Honours) degree. The AIQS make this award for each University accredited by the AIQS in Victoria.

Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Excellent Building Undergraduate Award

Awarded to an excellent undergraduate student enrolled in the Construction Management (Honours) degree for the best final year undergraduate dissertation

Ian Fulton Rotary Awards

Named in honour of Ian Fulton (past staff member of the School of Architecture and Built Environment) by the Geelong Rotary Club, two awards of $750 are made annually to the top two Bachelor of Construction Management (Honours) students with the highest weighted average marks (WAM) based on level 3 units completed.

Rendine Constructions Award

An award of $1,000 is made annually to the most outstanding final year student in the Bachelor of Architectural Technology based on overall academic achievement.

Richard Gibson Award

Named in honour of Richard Gibson (past staff member of the School of Architecture and Built Environment) an award of $500 is made annually into a third year Architecture student for the best design project.

Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Prize

An award of a RICS membership and assessment fee to the value of $400 is made annually to the highest performing student completing the Bachelor of Construction Management (Honours) degree.

The Cavalier Prize

A $250 voucher is awarded annually to the best student in first year design.

The Wai Shuen Kang Award

To celebrate the life of Ms Wai Shuen Kang an award of $500 is made annually to the student who provides a major contribution to the spirit, learning and career advancement of students in the School of Architecture and Built Environment.

Victorian Digital Solutions Prize

An award to the value of $400 is made annually to a student in each year level of the Architecture course and is awarded as either cash or digital printing output. Students will be judged on a non-discipline based selection of work that is graphically rich in the use of the digital medium and is visually engaging and informative.

Excellence in Structural Analysis, Institution of Structural Engineers Australia, Regional Group, Victoria Prize

A prize of $750 is awarded to an IStructE student member who achieves the highest overall mark for the unit SEV320 – Theory of Structures. To be eligible for the Prize, students must be enrolled as a student member of IStructE prior to Week 7 of the trimester of offer. Where more than one student receives the highest overall mark for the Unit, the Award shall be granted to the student with the highest exam mark. Where more than one student satisfies the aforementioned criteria, the prize value shall be split evenly between the recipients.

IMechE 'Frederic Barnes Waldron' Award

Awarded to the student who achieves the highest weighted average mark, in their final year of study, in the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honours). The recipient will be awarded an Associate Membership of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers for one year, a $150 book token, a medal and an IMechE certificate.

The Des Munday and Son Award

A prize of $500 is awarded to the student who achieves the highest weighted average mark at the completion of the third year of their studies in the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honours) or an equivalent major sequence.

The Engineers Australia Award

A prize of $600 is awarded to the student who achieves the highest overall academic performance in the final year of a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours), Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Honours), Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honours), or Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering (Honours) degree.

The Fred Green Memorial Award

Sponsored by, The Institution of Civil Engineers - Victorian Local Association

An award of $500 will be presented to the Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) student who achieves the highest weighted average mark (WAM) after completion of all core 3^rd year units.

Only students who have completed all compulsory, non-zero credit point 3^rd year units will be considered.

Where units are completed over multiple years, students completing the last compulsory third year unit in the year of offer will be considered.

Where more than one student receives the highest total mark for the year level, the award shall be granted to the student with the highest individual unit mark. Where more than one student meets the criteria, selection will be made by the course director.

The Godfrey Hirst Australia Award

A prize of $300 is awarded to the graduating student who achieves the highest honours grade in the Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours), Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Honours), Bachelor of Environmental Engineering (Honours), Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honours), or Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering (Honours) degree.

The Incitec Pivot Ltd Award

A prize of $1,000 for the most outstanding final year project (SEJ440, SEJ441, SEJ442 or SEJ446) on an environmental topic in a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours), Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Honours), Bachelor of Environmental Engineering (Honours), Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honours), or Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering (Honours) degree.

The School of Engineering Prize – Electrical and Electronics

An award of $500 is made annually to a student who has achieved the highest WAM (Weighted Average Mark) upon completion of S461 Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Honours).

The School of Engineering Prize – Mechatronics

An award of $500 is made annually to the student who has achieved the highest WAM (Weighted Average Mark) upon completion of S463 Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering (Honours).

The Steel Reinforcement Institute of Australia (SRIA)

A prize of $500, is awarded by the Steel Reinforcement Institute of Australia (SRIA) to the student enrolled in a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) degree, who achieves the highest grade in SEV300 Reinforced Concrete Design, which incorporates the SRIA lecture.

The VIVA Energy Australia Award

A prize of $1,000 is awarded for the most outstanding final year project (SEJ440, SEJ441, SEJ442 or SEJ446) in a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours), Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Honours), Bachelor of Environmental Engineering (Honours), Bachelor of Environmental Engineering (Honours), Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honours), or Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering (Honours) degree.

The Worley Parsons Award

A prize of $800 is awarded to a student enrolled in the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honours) who achieves the highest overall academic performance following the completion of years 1, 2 and 3.

Undergraduate Student Project Excellence

An award of $500 to be made annually to the best performing student in SEJ446 – Engineering Project B.  The award will be made to the student with outstanding academic achievement in SEJ446 Engineering Project B.

Patrick Pleass Memorial Award

Awarded in memory of Patrick Pleass, former IT Advisory Board member. An award of $1000 presented to the highest achieving second year student enrolled in the Bachelor of Computer Science.

Pham Family Honours Award

An award of $6000 paid towards student fees contribution for a student who has enrolled in the Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) at the Melbourne Burwood Campus and has achieved the highest weighted average mark in their undergraduate university studies.

School of Information Technology Award - Undergraduate

An award of $500 presented to high performing students enrolled in a School of Information Technology undergraduate course in each of the following categories. The recipients will have achieved a weighted average mark of 75 or greater:

• Awarded to the highest achieving first year undergraduate student enrolled in a School of Information Technology course at the Burwood (Melbourne) Campus.
• Awarded to the highest achieving first year undergraduate student enrolled in a School of Information Technology course at the Waurn Ponds (Geelong) Campus.
• Awarded to the highest achieving first year undergraduate student enrolled in a School of Information Technology Cloud (online) course.
• Awarded to the highest achieving second year undergraduate student enrolled in a School of Information Technology course at the Burwood (Melbourne) Campus.

School of Information Technology Industry Project Award - Undergraduate

An award of $1000 presented to the project team enrolled in a School of Information Technology undergraduate course who has completed SIT302 Project Delivery, SIT318 Innovation, Design and Prototyping, or SIT311 Software Engineering 3: Designing User-Centric Internet-of-Things Applications.

The award nomination will be by recommendation from the Project Supervisor and the Project Client, in consultation with the relevant Unit Chair, and is based on specific annual criteria to be determined by a nominated panel of academics and published via the IT Course Hub. The panel will nominate up to one winning team per academic year. The award of this prize will be determined by the Head of School, or nominee.

Aquatic Science Award

A $500 prize is awarded annually to the highest achieving third year student in the Bachelor of Environmental Science (Marine Biology). The successful applicant will have achieved a minimum weighted average score of 80 across their completed studies.

Byron Williams Award

Named in memory of Byron Williams. A prize of $500 and a certificate is awarded annually to a student who has completed between 15 to 20 credit points of the environmental science course at the Melbourne Burwood Campus.  The award is for a student who completed most of the course to date in a part-time mode, has shown commitment, high personal achievement (not exclusively academic) demonstrated the potential to pursue the ideals of the course in the community and persevered with studies alongside other external activities.

Christopher Michael Oakley Award

Named in memory of Christopher Michael Oakley. A prize of $500 and a certificate is awarded annually to a student who has met the requirements to graduate from the Marine Biology course or its equivalent and enrols for the honours year. The recipient will have achieved standards of excellence in their academic record, demonstrated a personal commitment to marine science, suitable personal qualities in leadership, concern for fellow students and demonstrated a financial need.

Excellence in Personal Achievement Award

An award of $500 is made annually to a student who has achieved excellence in their studies despite disadvantaged circumstances. The award recipient will have completed a minimum of 8 credit points of academic study and be enrolled in an undergraduate degree offer by the School of Life and Environmental Sciences.

Frances O'Connor Award

In memory of Frances O'Connor a prize of $500 and a certificate is awarded annually to a first year undergraduate student studying a Bachelor of Environmental Science (Marine Biology) at the Geelong Waurn Ponds or Warrnambool Campus.  The recipient will have demonstrated great endeavour in their environmental science studies.

Twelve prizes of $500 are awarded annually to the highest performing students who have completed their first year in full-time studies in the following undergraduate courses.  The successful recipients will have achieved at least a minimum weighted average mark of 80:

Head of School Award

A prize of $500 is awarded annually in honour of Peter Kew (former staff member) to the highest achieving second year student enrolled in either the Bachelor of Environmental Science (Marine Biology) or the Bachelor of Science major sequence in Fisheries and Aquaculture. The recipient of the award must be enrolled in at least three units per trimester and achieve a minimum weighted average mark of 80.

John Clarke Prize

Established by his former students in memory of John Clarke a prize of $1,000 and a certificate is awarded annually to the outstanding third year student entering an honours course in chemical or forensic sciences.

Kate England Award

Named in memory of Kate England a prize of $500 and a certificate is awarded annually to a student who has fulfilled the requirements to graduate with a Bachelor of Environmental Science degree offered at either the Melbourne Burwood Campus, Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus or the Warrnambool Campus. The successful recipient will have demonstrated commitment to their studies, high personal achievement (not exclusively academic) and pursued the ideals of the course in the community.

Office of the Chief Forensic Scientist Moot Court Prize

A prize of $500 and a certificate is awarded annually to the student enrolled in the Bachelor of Forensic Science who achieves the highest mark in the moot court presentation.

Victoria Police Forensic Services Department Honours Prize

A prize of $1,000 is awarded annually to the student who achieves the highest grade in the forensic science honours project.
