Planning your finances is an important part of preparing for your international experience.

Costs

Standard costs

Your international experience will entail several standard costs that you will need to be able to cover, including:

• visa application and processing fees
• passport application fees
• return airfares to your host country
• recreational travel while abroad
• accommodation and living expenses
• immunisations and medications
• study materials such as textbooks
• recreational costs and spending money.

Program application fees

Most Deakin Abroad programs attract a non-refundable application fee – the fee is paid at the time of application.

• Trimester exchange – $110.
• Short-term programs – $55.

Some host institutions may also charge an administrative fee when they process your application.

Tuition fees

Different programs have different tuition costs – each program brochure indicates the associated tuition costs. Programs with our exchange partners require students to pay their tuition to Deakin in the usual way via Deakin unit fees.

Other programs may require students to pay the host university directly. Short-term partner programs may or may not be offered at Deakin partner universities and therefore tuition may or may not be included in your program fee. Short-term partner programs that have tuition fees charged by the host institution are listed as 'study abroad' within the program search.

Most of our virtual global learning programs are cost-free for eligible students, although you will still be required to pay Deakin unit fees through your usual method.
