Deakin Postgraduate Research Outcomes 2017

Data from the Graduate Outcome Survey (GOS), the national census of newly qualified higher education graduates

  • 162 (46%) of research postgraduates told us what they were doing they year after graduation AND how they felt about Deakin and their course
  • Given the small numbers, we need more responses to enable Study Area comparisons with other Institutions
  • 88% overall employed
  • 76% in full time work within 4-6 months of those available for full time work
  • 7% were in full time study
  • 28% of those employed were working multiple jobs
  • They were working in 53 occupations across 34 industries in 14 countries (ABS ANZSIC and ANZSCO Codes)

What our graduates thought about their course

  • 82% overall satisfaction with course quality
  • 1st in Australia for satisfaction with thesis examination process

  • More industry and work placement opportunities
  • Expanded range of career planning, talent development and recruiting services
  • Targeted support for domestic and international students experiencing difficulties
  • Course planning and development based on student feedback
  • Careers outside of academia program
