HDR Scholarship - Distributed contextual multiagent intelligence

Research topic

Context awareness is the ability of a complex information system to collect relevant dependable information about its environment, its internal state and adapt its behaviour in response to real-time and/or predicted changes.

Project aim

The purpose of the scholarship is to fund a PhD student to conduct fundamental and applied research in order to develop a distributed context management system based on multiagent team approach. The system would be able to store, query, and monitor context in real-time in mission critical applications, such as search and rescue operations in emergency scenarios or dynamic deployment that may face complex and unexpected situations while deployed in the field with limited resources, intermittent connectivity and possible adversarial activities.

This scholarship is available over 3 years.

  • Stipend of $35,000 per annum tax exempt

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible you must:

  • be an Australian citizen. This is due to requirements of the scholarship sponsor.
  • meet Deakin's PhD entry requirements
  • be enrolling full time and hold an honours degree (first class) or an equivalent standard master's degree with a substantial research component.

Additional desirable criteria include:

  • strong  background  in  computer science, software engineering and/or electrical engineering
  • excellent  oral  and  written  communication skills in English.
  • understanding and knowledge of the following areas: Internet of Things (IoT), Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), Distributed Systems, Software Engineering for Distributed Systems, IoT-enabled context-awareness and continuous reasoning, Real-time machine learning and AI over IoT data streams.
