Undergraduate

Undergraduate (your first degree)

An undergraduate degree is generally completed between two to four years, depending on the pattern of study and any recognition of prior learning you may have. Associate degrees, bachelor and bachelor with honours are all undergraduate degrees.

Career opportunities

You'll graduate equipped with the professional, social and personal experiences for employment in a wide range of fields, including:

  • international aid and development
  • local and national government
  • diplomacy and foreign affairs
  • the business sector (communications, human resources, analysts, marketing)
  • law
  • international education
  • social entrepreneurship.

I chose to combine law and international studies as it was geared towards my interests of politics and international relations. The international experience component of this course has been a highlight as it allowed me to interact with students from all other countries.

Industry connections

At Deakin, students have the opportunity to gain valuable skills, make lifelong international connections and add value to their degree through one of our many international experiences.

Global experiences include in-country language programs, a trimester of study at an overseas university exchange partner, an international internship or an approved short-term study abroad program or study tour.^

Onshore opportunities also exist for students who wish to undertake international experience locally. Students can learn a language or participate in an approved onshore internship with an international organisation.

The international experience I undertook at Deakin has been so beneficial for me professionally, socially and personally. I lived in a rural village in South India for a month as part of my internship, building social enterprises with Australian organisation 40K.
