Enrolment at Deakin is changing for the better
At Deakin University we are transforming our learning environment and refining the way we talk about course and unit delivery modes and locations. These changes will make things simpler and easier for you to see where and how courses and units are delivered and taught which will enable you to easily search by enrolment mode and campus.
What are the changes?
Enrolment modes
Where you see 'Campus' in places like the Handbook and StudentConnect in reference to a unit, this means that the main mode of delivery for this unit is through attendance at classes at a Deakin campus, centre, industry or other physical site.
Where you see 'Cloud (online)' this means the main mode of delivery is through Deakin's online environment. There may or may not be compulsory contact hours online. In some units, you may be required to attend an event such as an exam or an assessment at a designated physical
site. You should always check the online Handbook.
A lecture is now a class
The Handbook is going to show 'Class' instead of 'Lecture'. A 'Class' means a general meeting for all enrolled students, for which you do not need to register, and where teaching staff engage you through presentations and
other learning activities.
The terms 'tutorial' or 'workshop' are replaced by the term 'Seminar.' A Seminar is a more interactive meeting for smaller groups of students.
When accessing either STAR or the online timetable, entries will now be prefaced by 'Cls' (instead of Lec) and 'Sem' (instead of Tut).
Campus descriptors
For greater clarity, the online Handbook will show campus names - for example: Burwood (Melbourne), Waterfront (Geelong) Waurn Ponds (Geelong) Warrnambool, or Cloud (online) instead of codes like B, S, F, W, G and X.
