Find out your advanced standing eligibility
Students who have completed previous studies from a recognised post-secondary institution may be granted advanced standing (credit transfer). This can reduce the number of units you need to take to be awarded the Deakin qualification. A list of recognised post-secondary institutions is available via the link above. Applications are also welcome from students who have completed previous studies from institutions that are not listed.
All applications for advanced standing are reviewed by a committee of the faculty in which enrolment is sought. Faculties will generally consider qualifications which were completed up to ten years ago. Applicants whose qualifications are older than ten years may submit them for evaluation if they have maintained involvement in the area and can provide evidence of this.
You should check with the relevant professional body (eg CPA Australia) that accepting advanced standing towards your degree does not prevent you from being accepted into its membership.
Applying for advanced standing
When you apply for a course at Deakin, indicate in the appropriate section on your application that you wish to be considered for advanced standing. If you are eligible, your offer letter will then contain information about your advanced standing.
Applicants should forward a full academic record which has been certified/notarised by the institution which awarded the qualification or certified photocopies of original transcripts. A complete assessment can be made only when full documentation has been provided. Applicants should not send original documents as they will not be returned.
Your advanced standing will be formally approved prior to your enrolment at Deakin. This occurs during the Enrolment and Orientation Program which runs one or two weeks before classes begin. You must bring original documents relating to your previous study so that this approval can occur.
