Mr Mehrzad Pakzamir

Mehrzad Pakzamir came to Australia as a refugee from Iran in 1984. He graduated from Deakin University six years later and started his professional career with Telstra as a technologist and was rapidly promoted to a Senior Project Manager role. In 1998, Mehrzad formed his own company and worked as a freelance management consultant for a number of years in Melbourne before joining Deakin University (Information Technology Service Division) as Corporate Applications Manager. Initially at Deakin he managed a team of six Information Technologists responsible for the support, integration, and development of the University’s corporate applications. After a few years of successful support, upgrade, and integration of more than 15 applications within the University Mehrzad was promoted to Programme Manager in the Information Technology Group.

During his current term as Programme Manager Mehrzad was presented with the opportunity to establish the entire program office from a team of two to a team of 50 IT professionals. Today, Deakin University Programme Management Office (PMO), under Mehrzad’s leadership and direction takes on over 80 Projects per annum with an average annual budget of approximately $7M.

Mehrzad is a current participant of Leaders for Geelong Program with strong link to local industry (particularly ICT Cluster). Mehrzad has keen interest in leadership development, relevance of tertiary curriculum to industry demands and revitalizing Geelong as a student city.
