Car Parking

Parking is limited at the Waterfront Campus and is known to reach capacity by early morning. It is recommended that graduands and their guests factor this into their travel time.

Please note that normal council restrictions on parking apply in the area around the Costa Hall at the Waterfront Campus. 

Deakin University car parks

Limited car parking will be available in the Geelong Waterfront Campus car parks in Smythe Street at $6 per day.

City of Greater Geelong car parking

  • Civic Centre car park, Gheringhap Street, Geelong (Opposite City Hall)

The Civic Centre Car Park is a 6 minute walk from the Waterfront Campus. You can enter the car park via Gheringhap Street or Lt Malop St. The Civic Centre Car Park has 487 spaces available including both permit and casual parking spaces.

Westfield Geelong

  • 95 Malop Street, Geelong

Westfield Geelong is a 7 minute walk from the Waterfront Campus. You can enter the car park via four entrances on Brougham, Malop, Moorabool and Yarra Streets. Westfield Geelong has 1700 spaces available.

Market Square Geelong

  • Corner Malop & Moorabool St, Geelong

Market Square is an 8 minute walk from the Waterfront Campus. You can enter the car park via four entrances on Malop, Moorabool, Yarra and Little Malop Streets. Market Square has 400 spaces available.

Public Transport

Train
V/Line trains operate regularly between Southern Cross Station in Melbourne and Warrnambool, stopping at the Geelong train station. The Campus is only a five minute walk from Geelong train station, or 20 minutes from Geelong South train station. Timetables can be found on the V/Line website.

Bus
The centrally located Geelong Waterfront Campus is well serviced by suburban bus lines which operate from the coastal towns through to areas on the outskirts of the city.

A number of buses stop at Malop Street which is a five minute walk to campus, they are:

  • The 10 bus (Geelong-Rosewall)
  • The 55 bus (Geelong-Newcomb), and
  • The 50 and 51 buses (Geelong-Herne Hill-Hamlyn Heights)

All other Geelong bus services stop in Geelong city, which is a five minute walk to Campus. Please visit the Public Transport Victoria website for more information about Geelong bus routes.

Coach
V/Line coaches run from many regional centres, including the Great Ocean Road and Ballarat, to the Geelong city and Geelong station. Please visit V/Line bus timetable website for more information.

Bicycle
The Geelong Waterfront Campus is easily accessed by an extensive system of bicycle trails. On campus you will find showers and change rooms, bike racks and lockers to make your commute as easy and safe as possible. For more information please visit the Getting to Geelong Waterfront campus webpage.

Car
A limited amount of parking is available on campus. Deakin University car parks are classified as Permit Parking Zones and a valid Deakin University parking permit is required at specified times.

You can drive from Melbourne to Geelong via the West Gate and Princes freeways, however public transport is highly recommended for accessing the Geelong Waterfront Campus.

Culture and weather
Geelong is Victoria's second largest city and is the gateway to the Bellarine Peninsula and the Great Ocean Road. It is a one hour drive from Melbourne and showcases lovely weather, a diverse range of food, culture and public art, including an art deco-style pool, promenade complex and restored pavilion at Eastern Beach.

Things to see and do
There are so many things to see and do including visiting the Geelong wine region, numerous galleries and museums, and beautifully landscaped gardens. Or you can even just do a bit of local shopping.

Transportation
There are a range of buses, train and taxi services to help you make your way around the beautiful city, with Avalon airport only a 20-30 minute drive away for any interstate trips.

Deakin University has two campuses in Geelong - Waterfront and Waurn Ponds. The Geelong region has housing options to suit all preferences – waterfront apartments, character period homes, new executive residences, rural properties and coastal living.
