Important information
Flexicars are owned and managed by Flexicar, not Deakin.
Deakin is unable to help with things such as cancellations, preferred cars, the process for pickup, cleaning, maintenance, or problems with fuel cards. Call Flexicar direct on 1300 363 780 if you have any issues and they will be able to help.
If you notice something is wrong with the car, report it via the Flexicar app or call Flexicar before you start driving.
Flexicars can be booked 24/7 by anyone with an account, so it’s important to make sure your pickup and drop off times are accurate. If you’re unsure how long you’ll need the car, we recommend booking it for the maximum amount of time in case plans change.
Returning a car late may incur a fee from Flexicar, as well as inconvenience the next person who has booked it.
To avoid cancellation fees, you must cancel or amend your booking at least four hours before it starts. If you don’t provide four hours’ notice, you will incur a Flexicar fee.
If you have any issues with the car – including difficulty with the fuel card – please call 1300 363 780 immediately (rather than the Campus Operations transport team).
Flexicar FAQs
Once registered, you can reserve a Flexicar using the Flexicar app or website from any Flexicar pod location (not just those on our campuses). To book from a Deakin Campus, enter ‘Deakin Uni’ into the postcode/suburb search field to select the campus location.
Five minutes before your booking time, switch on your Bluetooth and follow the prompts in the Flexicar app to start your booking and complete your pre-trip check. The Flexicar app will be your keys to lock and unlock the Flexicar during your booking.
Return the car to where you picked it up with at least a quarter tank of fuel (a fuel card will be in the car). Please remove rubbish and belongings before completing your booking by locking the vehicle using the Flexicar app.
There’s no need to record the mileage for your trip, it’s measured by the car’s GPS technology.
Anyone who has a Flexicar account, including students, staff and the general public.
Flexicar complies with all legal requirements including the Privacy Act 1988 and Australian Privacy Principles. You don’t need to worry about your data privacy being secure – there is no transmission of data outside the Flexicar system, or sale of data.
You can extend or shorten a booking before the beginning of your booking period without penalty if no other member has booked the car for that period. To avoid incurring any fees and inconveniencing another driver, you must cancel or change your booking at least 4 hours before your booking starts. If you don’t provide 4 hours’ notice, you will be charged by Flexicar. View information on fees.
Motorpass fuel cards are located in each Flexicar and also a manual that explains how to use it.
Motorpass fuel cards will be accepted at most service stations and the fuel type you need to use will be written on the fuel card. Make sure you only use this fuel type, or the card won’t work, and you’ll need to pay for it yourself.
Remember to return the car with at least a quarter tank of fuel, otherwise you will be fined.
Call Flexicar straight away on 1300 363 780 if the Motorpass fuel card does not work.
During your booking you can park in orange or white bays on Deakin campuses – you cannot park in Flexicar bays. When you return the Flexicar to the place you collected it, it must be parked in a Flexicar bay.
No, unless they have a Flexicar account.
Flexicar prefer that the person who makes the booking is the driver, as they may need to be contacted. Technically anyone can drive, but if something happens – such as a speeding fine or damage to the car – the person who books is liable to pay.
Do not let anyone who is not an authorised Flexicar member drive, as they won’t be protected by any damage cover, and you will be charged a penalty.
Yes. Flexicar may ask you for a copy of your passport or passport details, so make sure you keep an eye on your inbox for any emails and send the information as soon as you can.
Unfortunately, learner drivers are not able to use Flexicars until they have a licence.
If you have a probationary licence you are able to drive, however you are responsible for bringing your own P-plates and displaying them in the car, as required by law.
Call Flexicar before you commence your journey on 1300 363 780. The number is available 24/7.
