Deakin University statement on release of Racism@Uni Study
Deakin News
18 February 2026
Deakin University acknowledges the release of the Australian Human Rights Commission’s Racism@Uni Study, and thanks the AHRC for this important work.
We recognise the courage of the students and staff across the sector who shared their experiences through the Racism@Uni Study, which surveyed approximately 76,000 people. Many of those accounts are confronting, and we take them seriously.
Deakin has received the report and will carefully consider its findings and recommendations.
At Deakin, our strength comes from creating an environment where students and staff from multiple backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities and religions can flourish and thrive. In this environment, racism – whether overt, systemic or subtle – has no place.
We value our diversity, embrace difference and will continue to nurture a connected, safe and respectful community.
Any student or staff member who experiences or witnesses concerning behaviour is encouraged to reach out to one of Deakin’s trained Harassment and Discrimination Contact Officers, who can provide information on support and reporting options.
Free and confidential support is available for students at Deakin’s Counselling service and for staff via Employee Wellbeing Support with Converge.
