Statement on proposed changes
Deakin News
4 June 2026
To be attributed to a Deakin University spokesperson:
Deakin University has begun consulting staff on two proposed changes: one relates to how we organise and support our students and their education, and the other to how we provide the University’s infrastructure and digital services.
The first aligns with our Education and Employability Guiding Plan 2026-2030. It is designed to focus our efforts and investment where they make the most difference for students, and to bring related services together so students experience more connected, responsive support.
The second aims to make our physical and digital services more sustainable, with clearer accountability, so the University can continue to operate reliably and better support students, staff, teaching and research.
No decisions have been made. This is a genuine consultation with affected staff under our Enterprise Agreement, running until 19 June 2026. Feedback will be considered, and the proposals may change before any decision is taken.
We are committed to supporting our staff throughout this process.
Like other universities across Australia, Deakin is responding to significant changes, including evolving student needs, rising expectations for support, and how education is delivered and supported.
These proposals aim to position Deakin to continue delivering high-quality, relevant, inclusive and trusted education, now and into the future, supported by sustainable services and systems.
