Who is the Southeast Priority Bursary for?

Reach your career goals faster by accepting your offer early. If you study an undergraduate or postgraduate degree, you could receive up to AUD$2,000 to help with study costs. Plus, you will receive priority processing for your Deakin Residences accommodation application and your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).

We automatically consider all eligible students from Indonesia, Vietnam, The Philippines, Cambodia and across Southeast Asia for this bursary – no separate application required.

Value and duration

You could receive a one-off bursary payment of up to AUD$2,000. Eligible students will receive payment during the third trimester of their studies.

The value you receive depends on how you accept your offer:

  • AUD$2,000 bursary and priority processing: accept your firm offer within two weeks of the offer being made (and no later than four weeks prior to the start of trimester)
  • AUD$1,500 bursary and priority processing: accept your firm offer within four weeks of the offer being made (and no later than four weeks prior to the start of trimester).

Priority accommodation processing

Live in a safe, supportive community where your wellbeing comes first. Southeast Asia Priority Bursary recipients applying for Deakin Residences accommodation will receive priority processing.

Am I eligible to apply?

If you are looking for undergraduate or postgraduate scholarships for Southeast Asian students, this bursary is designed for you. To qualify, you must:

  • be a new international student applying to commence study in 2026 and 2027
  • be a national of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, The Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam
  • be a full fee-paying student (non-sponsored by an overseas government)
  • meet all the conditions outlined in your offer, accept your offer, and pay the required deposit mentioned in your offer letter within the following timelines:
    • AUD$2,000 bursary and priority processing: accept your firm offer (DUELI package or award) within two weeks of the offer being made (and no later than four weeks prior to the start of trimester)
    • AUD$1,500 bursary and priority processing: accept your firm offer (DUELI package or award) within four weeks of the offer being made (and no later than four weeks prior to the start of trimester).

Conditions of eligibility

This bursary is applicable to eligible undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. All degree entry requirements and offer conditions must be met.

  • This bursary can be combined with other Deakin University scholarships.
  • Deakin College and DUELI transfer students will not be eligible for this bursary.
  • This bursary is not available to students who defer their offer.

If you are national of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, The Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam, you are eligible.

You do not need to do anything extra. Simply apply for an eligible degree at Deakin University and accept your offer within the required dates. If you meet the criteria, you will be automatically considered. Find your country’s application closing date.

Yes. You can combine the Southeast Asia priority bursary with other Deakin University scholarships.

Once you have submitted your application, you will receive an acknowledgement email from Deakin University within two days. Your application will be allocated to a case officer who will assess your documents and be in contact if anything further is required.

We will notify you of the outcome once we process your degree application.

You can expect an outcome for your application within two to three weeks for undergraduate degree applications and approximately eight weeks for research degrees.

No. This bursary is only for students starting in the specified intake and is not available if you defer.
