Contemporary History: 'The past that's still with us'

November 29-30, 2012 - Deakin University, Geelong Waterfront Campus

The Alfred Deakin Research Institute and The Contemporary Histories Research Group invite you to participate in a discussion about the nature of Contemporary History, and the problems of researching and writing Contemporary History.

The term 'Contemporary History' has entered common usage, but does not seem yet to have an accepted meaning. The Journal of Contemporary History publishes on 'twentieth-century history' across a 'broad range of historical approaches ... social, economic, political, diplomatic, intellectual and cultural.'

The Contemporary Histories Research Group considers Contemporary History as 'history that is still with us, or the un!nished business of the past'. We consider those histories still alive in our present historical consciousness.

Deakin University acknowledges the traditional land owners of present campus sites.
