Brief Biography

David has a PhD in rural development from the Australian National University and over 10 years’ experience in international development research and practice as an academic, consultant and public servant.

David’s interest is in designing and leading research-based evaluations of aid programs with a view to providing evidence-based recommendations that improve aid effectiveness. David has significant skills in evaluation, integrated research design and strategic thinking in IDA as well as broad knowledge of development challenges in the Asia-Pacific region particularly with regards to sustainable development, agriculture, food security and multi-dimensional poverty.

David was recently Deputy Team Leader of a large Swedish-government funded evaluation into the impact of Sweden’s aid to Sri Lanka, Laos and Vietnam. He is currently Chief Investigator of an ACIAR-funded impact assessment study which will develop a methodology for assessing the impact of agricultural research on multi-dimensional poverty, and he is Principal Investigator of the Australian Research Council-funded “Supporting Pacific Development” research project with the Alfred Deakin Research Institute.
