Established in the 1970s as one of the new generation of Australian universities, Deakin combines a university's traditional focus on excellent teaching and research with a desire to seek new ways of developing and delivering courses.
Deakin has won the prestigious Australian University of the Year award twice and was also commended with six Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning at the 2009 Australian Learning and Teaching Council Awards.

Professional partnerships
The University's Strategic Plan - Delivering Effective Partnerships - is based on the premise that Deakin University can best achieve its goals by working in partnership. In many cases the partnerships are with people and groups external to the University. The partnership concept is also important to the sense of community that the University wishes to develop for its staff and students.
