About the program

We welcome PhD candidates, post-doctoral fellows, early-career researchers, senior academics, and industry or policy researchers whose work relates to SMEs.

Our focus areas include innovation, digital transformation, leadership, wellbeing, sustainability and internationalisation, as well as related fields such as entrepreneurship, productivity and regional development.

It is important to note that visits are self-funded, covering travel, accommodation, visa and living costs. Allow sufficient time for Temporary Activity visas if needed, and arrange your own accommodation and insurance, ensuring appropriate coverage for the duration of your stay.

What the program offers

We offer visiting scholars a collaborative environment, access to expert support and opportunities to advance impactful research. If you join the program, you’ll have access to:

  • workspace and facilities – desk space, meeting rooms, campus Wi-Fi, printing, library access and IT support
  • scholarly community – opportunities to collaborate with academics, co-author publications and connect across disciplines
  • seminars and visibility – present your work in Centre seminars, guest lectures and engage with global networks
  • co-authorship – contribute to collaborative publications, policy papers and industry reports.

Ideal candidates for the program

Program expectations

Expectations for visitors include sharing your expertise through seminars or presentations, acknowledging the Deakin Small-to-Medium Enterprise Research Centre and your host in any outputs, conducting collaborative research with the Centre team, and providing a brief end-of-visit summary outlining key activities and outcomes.
