How to qualify for practise in Victoria
Lawyers seeking to practise in Victoria, but who have trained in another jurisdiction, must apply to the Victorian Legal Admissions Board (VLAB) to receive an assessment of their qualifications.
VLAB’s assessment will specify the academic areas of knowledge you still need to meet in order to qualify for practise in Victoria.
The units below are listed under VLAB’s academic areas of knowledge, also known as the Priestly 11. Single units, or a combination of units, may be required to meet an academic area of knowledge.
Choosing your units
- You can choose either undergraduate or postgraduate units to complete a required area of knowledge. Postgraduate units place a stronger focus on policy.
- When completing several areas of knowledge, you can select undergraduate units for one and postgraduate for the other.
- Where a combination of units is required to complete an area of knowledge, you must select units at the same level (either undergraduate or postgraduate).
