After hours appointments
Can't make it to an appointment during the day? Make an appointment to Skype with a Language and Learning Adviser after hours.
Mon to Thu: 6pm – 7.30pm

- Book your after hours appointment during business hours on +61 3 9246 8250.
- Provide the receptionist with your Deakin email address or username.
- An LLA will send you an email with an appointment time and a link to your Skype appointment.
- At the designated time, click the "Join Skype Meeting" link.
- To use Skype you have two options: (1) Install Skype for Business (or Lync on a Mac) OR (2) Use the Skype Web App, which requires downloading a plug in.
- If this is you first time using Skype, please allow 15 to 20 minutes for installation or downloading.
FAQs
What can I expect in an appointment with a Language and Learning Adviser?
To get the most out of your consultation come prepared with some specific questions about your assignment.
When you attend a consultation with a Language and Learning Adviser they will ask you to fill in a brief questionnaire. You will be asked why you have made an appointment and the session will then attempt to address your needs. Please note that consultations are teaching and learning sessions - advisers do not correct, edit or proofread essays. They do make general suggestions about assignment criteria and essay structure.
Most consultations last for around 30 minutes.
It is always best to see a Language and Learning Adviser as early as possible, even during the early planning or writing stages of an assignment.
Can a Language and Learning Adviser or Writing Mentor edit my essay?
No. Neither Writing Mentors nor Language and Learning Advisers edit or proofread essays. The aim of these consultation is to assist you to identify areas for improvement and give you advice on how to improve your writing. For this reason it is important that you come prepared with a specific question about your essay.
