How to change your uni preferences
When you're ready, log into your VTAC account, then:
- Select 'edit courses', then 'update course preferences'.
- Add, remove or reorder your courses, putting the course you most want to study at the top.
- Select 'save' and 'exit' to submit your changes.
Frequently asked questions
You can update your preferences while change of preference is open. For current VCE students, it closes at 12 noon on 12 December 2026 for the December offer round, then reopens after offers are released. Check VTAC’s key dates for the deadlines that apply to you.
You can update your preferences in your VTAC account while change of preference is open. Select 'edit courses', then 'update course preferences' to add, remove or reorder your courses. Put the course you most want to study at the top, then save your changes.
You can change your preferences as many times as you need while change of preference is open. Changing them more than once won’t affect your chances, and there’s no extra cost once you’ve paid your VTAC course application fee. Just remember to save your changes each time.
Only if your choices have changed. Your ATAR may change the courses you consider, but it shouldn’t change the way you order them. Keep the course you most want to study at the top, then explore other course or pathway options if your result changes your plans.
Yes. While change of preference is open, you can move courses higher or lower on your list. If a course has become your first choice, move it to the top.
You may receive an offer for another course on your list. If you do, courses listed above your offer can still be considered in the next offer round. You can accept and enrol in your current offer to secure your place while you wait.
Put the course you most want to study first. Don’t rank courses by where you think you’re most likely to get in – your genuine first choice should be at the top. If you’re weighing up Deakin courses, our student advisers can help you compare your options and make your choice with confidence.
Yes. If you’ve changed your mind about your course, location, career direction or circumstances, you can add, remove or reorder your preferences while change of preference is open.
Check the course prerequisites and any additional selection requirements, such as an interview, folio or test. Some courses also have earlier closing dates, so check the course details before making changes.
