How We Got Here

The Sustainable Architecture Prompt (SAP) emerged from a clear gap in design education: while sustainability is widely discussed, the SDGs are rarely embedded in studio practice. Recognizing the urgency of climate change and social inequity, SAP was developed to translate the SDGs targets into tangible, creative prompts, empowering students and educators to act locally while thinking globally.

SAP is an interactive set of cards, board, and guidelines. Contact us if you would like to test it. This online version simulates the "fill-the-gap" game logic, offering a way to explore the concept.

Advocating for SDGs

As an advocate for the SDGs, I believe architects can adopt a holistic sustainable approach that goes beyond environmental response to include social, cultural, economic, and spatial transformation, impacting development in profound and measurable ways.

SAP disseminates the SDGs in architecture education through creative and collaborative approaches. By integrating SDG targets into design challenges, the game encourages future architects to engage with pressing global issues such as climate change, biodiversity, and equity. It transforms abstract goals into actionable strategies, strengthening responses to sustainability indicators.

Why It Matters

With only 18% of the SDGs currently on track, architects, educators, and students have a critical role in shaping healthier, more resilient communities. SAP equips learners with the mindset and knowledge to design for justice, sustainability, and inclusion, ensuring the built environment contributes meaningfully to planetary resilience.

Where and How to Use SAP

SAP can be applied in design studios, classrooms, workshops, and community projects. Educators can integrate the game into curricula to spark critical reflection, while students and recent graduates can use it to explore diverse perspectives in their design practice. Its flexible format makes it adaptable to both local contexts and global challenges.
