When can I start my study?
Deakin’s redesigned Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Commerce courses will begin in Trimester 1, March 2027. Applications will open in August 2026.
Applicants receiving an offer through VTAC in 2027 will join the new courses, while those starting in 2026 will enrol in the current programs.
What will I study in the Bachelor of Business?
You’ll start with a shared first year alongside commerce students, completing core units like Shaping the Future of Business, Business Impact in Society and Professional Identity and Career Development.
You’ll also take business-specific units such as financial literacy, economics, digital information management, marketing innovation and managing people and organisations.
In years two and three, you’ll complete a major, electives and work-integrated learning.
What will I study in the Bachelor of Commerce?
Your first year includes shared units with business students and commerce-specific units such as accounting, economics, finance, business analytics and law for commerce.
In years two and three, you’ll focus on your chosen major, electives and work-integrated learning, applying analytical, financial and decision-making skills to business challenges.
What majors or specialisations are available?
Choose from a new range of majors, designed with industry to give you practical skills, confidence and clear career direction.
Business majors: business information systems, business management, entrepreneurship and innovation, human resource management, marketing management, project management.
Commerce majors: accounting, digital transformation, economics, finance, financial planning, marketing insights.
Can I study a double degree in business or commerce?
Yes. Deakin offers flexible double degree options so you can combine a business or commerce degree with fields such as law, business analytics, arts, communication, property and real estate and science. This allows you to save time, reduce costs and unlock more career opportunities.
What is industry experience like?
Industry experience is a core part of both the Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Commerce. Throughout your degree, you will engage directly with industry through guest speakers, live case studies, and projects that bring theory to life and build your professional awareness.
These regular touchpoints are enhanced with a work-integrated learning experience, where you will collaborate with an industry partner through a consultancy project or internship. This is an opportunity to apply your skills in a professional setting, build networks and gain practical experience that supports your transition into future careers.
