If you're applying for the following postgraduate psychology programs at Deakin University, you’ll need to complete the Casper test to be considered for an offer:
All applicants are required to complete Casper as part of their application for the next admissions cycle.
Please note, it takes two weeks to score each Casper test round. Therefore, you'll need to register and complete the Casper test at least two weeks prior to the application closing date. The final testing date you can sit the Casper for this application cycle is 8 October 2026.
You will register for assessment code Australia Casper 2 (CSP-20400).
It will complement the other tools we use for applicant review and evaluation, and we require Casper as part of our efforts to enhance fairness in our selection process.
We will use the Casper score and fourth-year grades to rank eligible students to determine applications that progress to detailed assessment, at which time we review your curriculum vitae (CV), personal statement and references.
Casper (computer-based assessment for sampling personal characteristics) is an online, open-response situational judgment test that takes 65–85 minutes to complete.
The Casper test helps us understand who you are beyond your academic results, highlighting important traits like integrity, empathy and communication skills. It’s part of a more holistic admissions process used by universities worldwide – and it’s your opportunity to show your readiness for a career as a practicing psychologist.
Casper measures personal and professional skills that we believe are important for successful students and graduates of our program. It consists of 11 scenarios (six video-based and five text-based), each followed by two open-ended questions, with a 3.5 minute time limit for two text responses and 1 minute for video responses. The test assesses non-academic attributes such as communication, collaboration, ethics, empathy, equity, motivation, problem-solving, resilience and self-awareness.
Casper is administered by Acuity Insights. It costs $59 to sit the test, and an additional $30 for each university you choose to share the test results with.
Sample test scenarios are available on the Acuity Insights website. Check out the examples and the types of questions included in the test to help you understand how Casper works.
