Application dates vary depending on your course, how you’re applying and your circumstances. Find the option that applies to you to check the relevant dates.
When can I apply?
Applications for courses commencing in 2027 opened on 3 August 2026.
When do applications close?
Key VTAC dates for Trimester 1, 2027:
- 28 September 2026, 5pm – Timely course applications close. Apply by this date to avoid the higher late application fee.
- 9 October 2026, 5pm – Equity schemes and scholarship applications close, including the deadline to submit supporting documents.
- 10–12 December 2026 – VCE results and ATARs are released at 7am on 10 December. Update your course preferences by 12 noon on 12 December to be considered for the December offer round.

When can I start?
Deakin offers three main intakes each year, with opportunities to start studying in March (Trimester 1), July (Trimester 2) or November (Trimester 3).

Application closing dates vary by intake and country to allow enough time for visa processing and enrolment. Ensure you check the relevant deadlines for your country when applying.

When can I apply?
You can apply for a research degree or PhD at any time throughout the year.
When can I start?
You can commence your research throughout the year, subject to faculty approval. However, we recommend starting on one of the four main intake dates so you can access orientation programs and support services.
The remaining main intake date for 2026 is:
- Intake 4: 27 October 2026
The main intake dates for 2027 are:
- Intake 1: 25 February 2027
- Intake 2: 6 May 2027
- Intake 3: 1 July 2027
- Intake 4: 28 October 2027

Important research intake information: If you're unsure which faculty or institute your research degree falls under, check your supervisor's profile for details on the relevant faculty or institute.
International students pursuing a research degree or PhD with the Faculty of Arts and Education may not commence in Intake 1.
Students applying for a research degree or PhD with the Faculty of Business and Law may not commence in Intake 2.
