NIKERI applications

Follow the steps below to apply to study a course with the National Indigenous Knowledges Education Research Innovation (NIKERI) Institute.

What are the entry requirements?

Admission to courses at the NIKERI Institute are based on alternative entry. An ATAR or high school graduation certificate is not a necessity, as we also value knowledge gained through experience. Applications are accepted based on answers to the online application, submission of required documentation, an assessment task and an interview conducted face to face or via phone.

How to apply to NIKERI

Please note that admission into NIKERI Institute courses is subject to availability. Here’s how to apply:

  1. Use our course finder to select the course you would like to study.

  2. Complete the NIKERI Institute declaration statement and application form (postgraduate applications may require additional information).

  3. Receive confirmation of your application via email. An assessment task – designed to ensure you're prepared for academic study – will be sent to you for completion.

  4. Return your completed assessment task and forward an endorsed Proof of Aboriginality or Torres Strait Islander heritage (signed by your local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community Organisation).

  5. Receive the results of your assessment task. If you’re successful, an interview will be arranged.

  6. Attend your interview. At this stage, you should start thinking about scholarships.

  7. Find out the outcome of your application.

  8. Enrol in your course and start applying for scholarships.

The NIKERI Institute believes everyone should have access to higher education without limitations or battling financial hardship. Scholarships can be academic based, awarded as recognition for certain achievements or in place to redress inequity. Use the 'advanced filters' feature to find your scholarship.

Research and doctorate studies

Research and higher degrees by research (masters and PhD) studies are also available through NIKERI Institute. As part of the application process, you'll need to complete an expression of interest form and a proposal form. A member of our student services team will explain how to complete them. Footnotes

We deliberately use the terms Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, Indigenous, First Nations, First Peoples interchangeably and in doing so acknowledge that while people have personal preferences, none of these terms are perfect and with that imperfection each carry nuanced residual forms of colonial power. The content was constructed with the core value of respect.
