Content
This unit introduces practice-led inquiry through material exploration across creative arts disciplines. Students develop technical and creative skills through processes of making, experimentation, and reflection, focusing on how materials, bodies, and media generate meaning.
Through iterative cycles of practice, presentation, feedback, and contextualisation, students build foundational capabilities in material-based practice and begin to articulate their creative processes. Students will participate in studio-based learning, practical exercises, peer critique, and independent creative development, contributing to a collaborative studio culture through active participation and critical engagement.
Over the course of the trimester, students will experiment with materials, processes, and techniques, documenting their creative development using digital tools and reflecting on the relationship between material choices, creative intention, and emergent outcomes. Learning occurs through studio workshops and is supported by practical homework, reading, discussion, viewing others' work, and maintaining a creative practice journal or portfolio.

Hurdle requirements
To be eligible to obtain a pass in this unit, students must achieve an overall mark of at least 50% in assessment task 1, Observed Skill Demonstration and Portfolio and in assessment task 2, Live Oral Presentation with Q&A to evidence a minimum proficiency in the aligned discipline learning outcomes included in this unit.
