Content
This unit develops the foundational skills for "writing with the camera"; the translation of script into moving image. Designed for emerging screen practitioners, it equips students with the technical and creative skills required for professional screen production: digital video camera operation, visual language, lighting, sound recording, and an introduction to virtual production. It is a practical unit that requires attendance to participate in the assessment activities; a series of camera, audio, and sequencing exercises and critical evaluations that develop industry standard skills students can extend into their own film and television projects.
Topics include:
• digital video camera operation and handling
• industry standard framing, composition and visual language
• basic lens theory
• foundational lighting techniques
• recording and working with audio in digital video
• non-linear editing and data management
• constructing sequences: overlay and continuity
