Content
This unit explores the evolving relationship between digital art and photography, with a focus on contemporary practices shaped by emerging technologies. It considers how the medium of photography is used in the time of AI, engaging students in both practical and research-based workshops. Through making, discussion, and critical reflection, students will explore the aesthetic, conceptual, and ethical implications of image-making in a machine-learning context. The unit encourages critical engagement with the histories of photography while speculating on its possible futures. Students will gain an understanding of how artists and researchers respond to algorithmic culture, synthetic media, and networked images. Suitable for students from diverse backgrounds, this unit supports experimentation and interdisciplinary thinking across theory and practice in digital imaging and lens-based media.
