In this unit, students critically examine the integration of generative artificial intelligence (genAI) in design and creative practice. Students will explore the historical impact of machine intelligence on human creativity and the ways humans will transform uses in practice. The unit introduces ethical, cultural, and societal considerations in relation to emerging and evolving technologies. Students will engage with current debates around responsible and inclusive genAI, algorithmic bias, intellectual property, authorship, and the shifting role of the designer. Through applied case studies, critical discussion, and practice-based research, students will investigate strategies for ethical and equitable implementation of innovative design practices across diverse industries.
